Paul Stuart’s new boutique brings classic menswear to the Hamptons – Robb Report – Fashion Men

The annual summer migration of New Yorkers from the city to the Hamptons has gained new momentum this year. Due to Covid-19, the exodus came earlier and more brutally than in past seasons, as those lucky enough to have second homes escaped the city and crouched down to overcome the pandemic. Now that several months have passed, some of the benefits of city living are beginning to be sorely missed. But don’t worry, Hamptonites, a New York classic is coming your way. Paul Stuart is heading east with a new boutique in Southampton, which opens today.

For more than 80 years, the brand’s flagship product on Madison Avenue has been a store of all kinds of classic men’s clothing. He outfitted Cary Grant and Michael Bloomberg, as well as the fictional titans of the industry on Succession. From polo shirts and brogues to bespoke tuxedos, Paul Stuart is a one-stop shop for all men’s (and, since the 1970s, women’s) wardrobe needs. The breadth of its offering makes it a particularly welcome addition to the Hamptons’ retail scene.

As Paulette Garafalo, CEO of Paul Stuart, told WWD, the idea of a Hamptons outpost was sparked by current events. “When we were able to pick up at the curb [at our flagship], we started calling our customers, ”she told the business. But almost all of the customers staff contacted explained that they had left town for their country home and had no plans to return until Labor Day. If customers couldn’t come to them, the brand would go to their customers.

As if it were inevitable, things quickly fell into place. A fortuitous vacancy on Main Street in Southampton provided a perfect location and within two weeks the lease was signed and they began to move in. Everything was aligned so well that what was originally planned as a seasonal pop-up will now be a permanent, full-service store. The 1,900 square foot space will house a wide array of the brand’s merchandise, from linen athletic shirts to cashmere cricket sweaters and seersucker suits. Naturally, there will be a selection of pieces geared towards living in the East: swimsuits, Panama hats, sneakers and more.

A seersucker suit ($ 1,377) and a cashmere polo shirt ($ 477) from Paul Stuart’s spring collection.

In addition to the range of clothing, shoes and accessories for men and women, the boutique will also offer bespoke tailoring by Paul Stuart, a particular rarity among beach shops. Furthermore, the Southampton store will feature the first outpost of the brand’s recently launched CustomLab concept. The service uses the latest technology as well as traditionally luxurious materials to deliver personalized and tailor-made clothing, from suits to ties to jeans, delivered in four weeks at enviable prices (shirts starting at $ 195, jackets starting at of $ 695). In these uncertain times, knowing that you can have high-end pants cut just for you and delivered with plenty of time before your Labor Day is both comfort and true luxury.
